Question: Which wireless standard should I use?
The most popular wireless standards are 802.11n and 802.11g, however I would recommend 802.11n since it’s a mature technology that provides much faster bandwidth (up to 300Mbps) if you compare to 802.11g and the price is reasonable nowadays.
The other good point for using 802.11n product is that it supports 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands, so that to make it backward compatible with 802.11a (5GHz band), 802.11b (2.4GHz band) and 802.11g (2.4GHz band) wireless products. Therefore you don't have to worry if you still got laptop or desktop that supports older wireless standards only.
Other than latest 802.11n wireless standard, IEEE is currently developing 802.11ac that can provide bandwidth up to 1 Gbps (Gigabits WiFi), but it will only be finalized sometime in 2013. Some vendors might start to produce wireless product based on draft 802.11ac wireless standard, but I don't recommend you to use it because it's still not finalized and the price will not be cheap too.
