THE wifi dead spot solution for large homes... Steveon March 21, 2017
Just moved to a 3,500 SF 2-story home. Initially bought a Netgear AC1750. Great router, but just wasn't reaching the far ends of the house or back patio. Decided to try the Orbi after a ton of research on mesh network products. Installation was a bit cumbersome, as I had to logon with a laptop to configure the router to AP mode (behind a Spectrum Modem) and adjust a few other settings. I also had to manually download and install the firmware update. Not hard, just took some time.
Performance is outstanding with 1 caveat: It all depends on where you place the satellite Orbi. Initially I placed my satellite in the upstairs rear game room, while my router sits in the office downstairs at the front of the house. I was getting an Amber LED and very slow wifi speeds at the satellite. I ended up moving the satellite one room closer to the router upstairs and I got a Blue LED. Bam! Suddenly I was pegging out my download speeds on wifi. Drop off in speeds throughout my house is minimal and I have 3 bars everywhere. My back patio is a mix of 2-3 bars, and speeds about 75% of that inside. Still, I am impressed.
If you have a large house, Orbi is THE product you need for wifi solutions.
I am giving it 4-stars due to high price. I think 250-300 is fair. 350 is a bit high. And also for the somewhat cumbersome initial setup. That being said, I would recommend this.

The distance is outstanding, when it stays connected. Super fast. However i believe there is a firmware issue that causes you to get disconnected at random times. Netgear support community has over 6 pages as of this issue as of this review. Do your homework first: search google "orbi keeps losing internet connection" sadly this one is going back.

If you need wireless throughout your home..........look no further. This is absolutely wonderful. Our house is all on one level, which means that a typical wireless router doesn't really provide signal everywhere. I have tried range extenders (amped, netgeat, linksys), I have also had two different internet connections (expensive!) - then I read about mesh wireless systems. After reviewing all of them, I was down to the Netgear Orbi or the somewhat newer Linksys Velop. I went with the Orbi with one satellite - our house is 3000sf and I thought that would be sufficient. PLUS, the Linksys Velop was $100 more than the Orbi. The Orbi was a breeze to set up - from opening the box to configuring the system and having wireless up and going - a total 15 minutes - and I now have a strong wireless signal all over my house. Just one tip when setting it up, be sure and go into your existing Gateway (if you have one, many cable models now include a wireless router) and disable the wireless - the Orbi will now serve as your wireless "provider" ....A great product.

I have tried extenders and "whole house" wireless routers for years. Recently, I moved to a 2 story home and the old standards did not cut it.
The Orbi uses a 3rd band for base to satellite traffic, which means you don't lose the bandwidth extenders use communicating with the base router.
We have 5 wired devices and 14 wireless including 4 SmarTV's. We've never experienced buffering from streaming sources, even when everyone is watching something.
The iPhone App is great for monitoring the system; but the Web Gui rocks. The System has a Guest Network function, I was able to mirror my Son's house so when they visit, they just connect as if they were home.

We have a large 3 story house with a back extension where the den is located. The router reaches places in the main house that our ComCast box could never even begin to touch. It believe it exceeds the 5000 square feet that they advertise. The router seems to be a very strong device. The satellite requires a lot of attention to placement. The signal does not go through a brick wall very well. It might work better if only going through sheetrock but I did not have that option. Once I moved both devices to locations where all that was between them were two panes of glass (line of sight) the system worked well. The satellite signal strength is much lower than the router but I was expecting that. I work with WiFi equipment on my job and understand limitations of a wireless bridge. The image is clean and it consistently works as long as the TV is the "ONLY" device talking to the satellite. If you are just using smartphones and tablets it can easily handle several devices at a time. We can now watch Netflix in our den with no interruptions. I would recommend it.
