This adapter is *incredibly* fast for WiFi. I am able to consistently get over 200mbps in a real-world environment (through a wall, adapter located ~18 ft from the router). Needless to say, I am very happy. Note that I am using USB 2.0, which has a maximum theoretical transfer rate of 280mbps - it is possible that this card would be even faster if connected to a USB 3.0 port.
To those of you who were expecting to get 867mbps - Edimax publishes the aggregate full duplex bandwidth number. It can be a little confusing at first, because it's different than what we're used to with wire networking. In wired networking, the 1Gbps advertised speed represents the speed that the adapter is able to achieve in *each* direction. In wireless networking, the industry standard is to advertise the sum of the speeds that can be achieved in *both* directions ... so if wired cards were spec'd like wireless cards, they would be referred to as '2Gbps' (and conversely, if this were a wired card, it would be advertised as 433 mbps). Since this is the industry standard in wireless networking, I think that Edimax's specification of '866Mbps' is fair. That being said, don't expect to get 433mbps unless you live in an interference-free area (basically if you live way, way out in the country) and have a line-of-sight between the router and adapter. Even if you can only achieve 200-300mbps, you're still getting the fastest performance that has ever been available in wifi (as of 6/2013) for a bargain price ($39.99 at this writing).
Another thing to be aware of is that due to the physical properties of 5Ghz RF, it will *never* pass through walls and other structures as well as 2.4Ghz. In general, with RF communications the rule is that as frequency increases, more of the signal will be absorbed by structures. Since this is a dual-band adapter, if you'd like to use it on a different floor than the router is located on, or through some troublesome walls, I suggest using it with a 2.4Ghz network. You'll pay a price in maximum performance, but you'll be rewarded with a more stable connection.

The adapter works, but there are steps you need to follow to set it up in Win8.1.
Much like other Windows 8.1 users, every time i plugged in the adapter my computer would crash.
Here's a fix:
1. download latest drivers from [...] (bottom of page)
2. open downloaded zip and find "Autorun" folder inside the "CD_AC600" folder.
3. double click "autorun.exe" and click "extract all"
4. "autorun.exe" is now unzipped (icon should look like executable file), double click it again to open driver installation guide
5. pick the adapter with skinny antenna and follow instructions on the screen to finish installation.
I took off 2 stars because wireless adapter should never crash your computer. That is unacceptable.

So far, the Edimax has worked here at home; however my real challenge is on the road. I found many of the places we stayed had lousy WiFi so I invested in this USB antenna to help with the draw when working away from home on the road. The disc played well in the DVD to download the driver for internet. The plastic housing of the Edimax is a little thin, but has held up fine inserting it in and out of the UBS - I will likely wrap it in bubble wrap when travelling.

Works great so far, I'm using it in a pcmcia to usb adapter, and it works without the little extra power cable, so the power consumption must be pretty reasonable, but I couldn't find it listed anywhere on their site. Needless to say, I haven't done any throughput testing or anything, but for the vintage use cases I'm using it for, it's more than performing, and it supports 5ghz which means I don't have to use the polluted 2.4ghz frequency in my apartment complex, though it still supports 2.4 if you need it!

It's okay for what it does, but I wasn't pleased. Installing the drivers was a major pain, I had to do it three times: one from the disc, one from the site, and one from device manager. My Windows just didn't like it, and nor did I. I don't recommend this product. It also doesn't seem to have good range or power. I'm no expert on 5Ghz wireless, but I expected more.
